This chandelier draws inspiration from clustered ginkgo branches, merging organic form with the luxury of bone china—every detail bears the warmth of handcraft and the refinement of premium materials, culminating in an otherworldly play of light and shadow.
1. Bone China Slurry: The Foundation of Luxury & Translucency
Our bone china is crafted from a precise blend offood-grade bovine bone ash (a repurposed byproduct of the ethical meat industry), kaolin, and quartz. A high proportion of responsibly sourced bone ash is the key to its signature translucency. The slurry is meticulously milled and refined to eliminate impurities—this fragile, finicky material is what makes the final piece so rare and coveted.
2. Slip Casting: Capturing the Lightness of Ginkgo Leaves
The refined slurry is hand-poured into custom ginkgo leaf molds (as seen in Image):
Artisans carefully control the pour volume and drying time to ensure uniform thinness—this delicacy is what lets light glow softly through the finished leaves.
Once the slurry sets to a semi-dry state, the greenware (unfired piece) is gently demolded, revealing the initial leaf shape.
3. Hand Finishing: Etching Nature’s Intricate Details
The demolded greenware (Image) is shaped with fine, precision tools:
Artisans trim rough edges and carve natural vein patterns into each leaf—every line mirrors the organic flow of real ginkgo foliage, balancing artistic flair with botanical authenticity.
Given the bone china greenware’s extreme fragility, this step requires slow, steady hands; each leaf takes dozens of minutes to perfect.
4. Meticulous Sanding: Crafting a Silky, Porcelain-Like Texture
The finished greenware is smoothed with progressive tools (from soft sponges to fine sandpaper, as in Image):
A gradual sanding process erases micro-imperfections, leaving the leaf with a creamy, jade-like smoothness.
This stage demands gentle, deliberate touch to avoid damaging the delicate piece—patience is as critical as skill here.
Sanded leaves are loaded into a high-temperature kiln (Image) and fired at 1,200°C+ (2,192°F+):
The intense heat vitrifies the bone china, creating a material that’s both durable and luminous.
Strict control of heating/cooling rates is non-negotiable (bone china is prone to warping or cracking), resulting in a low yield that makes each leaf a unique artisanal artifact.
